Nfu Oh 61

This was one of the prizes that I won from Shelly's Sassy Nails giveaway in July! I was super excited to put this baby on because it's my first Nfu Oh and I had heard great things about it. Well.. I hate to say this.. but it was more than a bit challenging.  I usually wear base coat under my polishes, and I tried doing that with this one.. it just wouldn't cooperate at all. The polish would literally just slide off the nail as I did the brush strokes! So I took it off and started back at square one. This time with no base coat. It was better, but still not easy - it would clump up in some areas and be too thin in others. I ended up doing 3 coats just to even everything out. It is a very pretty polish, but I was kinda surprised by how difficult it was. Also the holographic effect isn't really that strong (with the exception of the photos I took with flash). Maybe I'm just jaded or something.. I blame Ozotic and Ludurana for spoiling me! ;)

This is 3 coats of Nfu Oh 61 without top coat.

I just had to show a full bottle shot!

Nfu Oh polishes can be purchased from FabulouStreet.com for $12.50. They also sell the Aqua Base Coat which is supposed to work great with holographic polishes, but I've never used it so I can't say for sure whether or not that's true.

My random song of the night is "Spectrum" by Florence & The Machine. I figured it would go well with this polish because it has a spectrum of colors in it!

Pretty & Polished - Pool Party

I'm trying to use up all my summer themed polishes before August ends, and one of the first polishes that sprung to mind was Pool Party by Pretty & Polished. It's a gorgeous blue crelly (not quite a creme, not quite a jelly) packed with multi colored glitters in different shapes and sizes. It truly does look like pool floats against beautiful clear blue water!
I did have some application issues with this polish. Unfortunately some of the glitters were curling. Some I gently removed from the nail with a tweezer while my polish was still wet. Others I just continued to paint over until I achieved a comfortable level of smoothness.
This is 3 coats of Pool Party followed by 1 coat of Gelous, 1 coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dry, and 1 coat of Essie Good To Go.

and the macro that I wish I could dive right into and take a swim!:
Unfortunately you can see that the red bar glitter on the right was curling a bit.

The curling issues that I experienced with this polish would not put me off from using it again. It did take a little more effort than most, but the end result is so beautiful I feel like it was worth it! However, if you are the type of person who has no tolerance for curling than I would not recommend this polish for you.

I purchased this polish from the Pretty & Polished Etsy page - minis are $4.75 and full sized are $8.50. Check out her Facebook page as well!

The song that this polish makes me think of is "Banshee Beat" by Animal Collective. Particularly the part where he sings "..swimming pooooool.." @4:26 on this clip:

Naild'It - Dragon Scales

This is a completely amazing matte glitter bomb. It has every color of the rainbow and more!  Yet another polish that I happily discovered while perusing Etsy, and I'm really glad I found it!

I did 1 coat of Dragon Scales over Spoiled I'm So Jaded, followed by 1 coat of Gelous, and 1 coat of Essie Good To Go top coat.

I purchased this polish off of Naild'It's Etsy page for $8.50. That girl has got some serious talent - check out her Facebook page as well! I just placed another order with her last week and I can't wait to get it!

This polish combo totally reminds me of Albi from Flight of the Conchords! Don't know what I'm talking about? Then watch this clip!:

Spoiled - I'm So Jaded

I love this color! It's a bright green with a hint of golden shimmer. It's almost neon, but not quite as obnoxious - not that I don't occasionally enjoy an obnoxiously bright neon! ;) This was much softer looking on the nail then it appeared to me in the bottle, which is great because I ended up loving it even more than I thought I would!

I used 3 coats of "I'm So Jaded" and 1 coat of top coat. In the pics it looks like there's some VNL, but in real life I didn't see that at all.

I purchased this polish at my local CVS for $1.99. The brushes in the Spoiled bottles are infamously bad (they literally look like they've been chewed on ..lol), but I didn't have any application issues.

On a completely different note... I really enjoyed adding music to the end of my last post and I'm seriously considering making it a regular thing on the blog. In addition to nail polish and Westies (or dogs in general for that matter) another passion of mine is music. I love discovering new songs to listen to (even if they're not technically NEW) and I would love to share them with you! In the case of my last post the song went with the polish name, and I will try to do that as often as I can, but most of the time the songs are going to be quite random. It will most likely be whatever song is stuck in my head at the moment - my brain is kinda like an iPod shuffle, I never know what's coming next! Seriously, all I have to do is hear somebody say something that reminds me of a lyric in a song, and I'll start singing that song (not always out loud, but sometimes!).

That's so me! Anyways, without further ado, here is the song of the day (well, technically night)!

Polished Perfection - Satellite of Love

Sometimes you just have to buy a polish because of it's name. This was the case for me with "Satellite of Love". The moment I saw that Polished Perfection had come out with an MST3K line I just knew I had to buy some! For those of you who don't know MST3K (also known as Mystery Science Theater 3000) was a TV show from the late 80's into the 90's. The characters in the show watch really lame old movies and make fun of them as they go along. The Satellite of Love is the name of the spaceship that the show takes place on (did I mention it's Sci-Fi Comedy?). If you're a fan of sarcasm you have to see this show!! It no longer plays on TV, but luckily it's available on Netflix! This polish also makes me think of the Lou Reed song of the same name. That song (which came out in 1973) was most likely the inspiration behind the spaceship name in MST3K. I put that song and the show's theme song at the bottom of this post if you want to check them out!

This is 1 large dabbled coat of "S.O.L." over Zoya Myrta, followed by 1 coat of Gelous, and 1 coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry. The glitters in S.O.L. tend to sink to the bottom of the bottle, so to combat this I left the bottle upside down until I was ready to use it - and it worked like a charm!

and the incredible macro!:

As you can see it's full of silver/holographic hexes of various sizes, diamonds, squares, bars and even the occasional rectangle! I can officially say I'm in love with Satellite of Love! ..heehee.

Check out Polished Perfection's Etsy page! Her polishes are currently only $4 for a full sized bottle!! :D

And finally.. here are the 2 songs that keep playing in my head whenever I look at this polish!:

Zoya - Myrta

This polish is a very pretty red toned orange. Unfortunately I'm not totally comfortable wearing this color. I feel like it's a little too mainstream for me.. lol. Anyways, I used 2 coats of Myrta followed by 1 coat of top coat. Application was fantastic, which seems to be the norm for Zoya. The photos below were taken indoors with flash (except the one allll the way at the bottom) because the weather has been absolutely horrible today. I hate taking photos with flash because the color doesn't come out as accurate as with sunlight. The polish looks slightly redder in the pics, but luckily it's not that far off.

Hit Polish - Candied Jewels

Let me start off by saying that Hit Polish is the new name of D & R Apothecary's nail polish line. I absolutely love their polishes! You may remember the post I did of "Halloween" a couple weeks ago (if not, you can find it here). I wore that mani for days (which for me is really saying something - considering how easily bored I get), I honestly didn't want to take it off! Well here is another amazing polish from them called "Candied Jewels", which I plan on wearing for awhile as well! It has medium sized matte purple & matte red hexes (they both have those awesome little stripes on them!), matte teal hexes that are slightly smaller than the red & purple, small green, blue, and white hexes, and small green squares - all in a clear base. A very unique combination that I totally adore!

I layered 2 dabbled coats of Candied Jewels over my Spoiled "Did I Dye It Too Blonde?" mani from yesterday, followed by 1 coat of Gelous and 1 coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat. I'm really pleased with how it came out! :D

and the super yummy macro!:

I purchased this polish off of D & R Apothecary's Etsy page, but it can also be purchased on their new website HitPolish.com. The creator of these polishes, Rachel, is really sweet and very talented. She's always coming up with new polishes - I seriously make at least one purchase from her every week!

Spoiled - Did I Dye It Too Blonde?

This polish is so super duper neon that I had a hard time getting good photos of it. I've heard other bloggers say that neon polishes tend to freak their cameras out.. well mine was no different. These are the best shots I could get, and even they are blurry :(

This polish is a jelly so rather than wear it alone I layered one coat of it over 2 coats of Wet n Wild French White. It's muuuuuch brighter this way.. maybe too bright perhaps? ..nah!!

Metametics - Not Your Housekeeper

Metametics describes this polish as "a bloom of lavenders, purples and violets" - but it is sooo much more than that! I will now try to list every piece of glitter that I could see when wearing this polish on my nails (it's a doozie, but here goes): matte magenta diamonds and matte magenta medium & large hexes, small purple hexes and small & medium purple shards, tiny lavender hexes & squares, small reflective aqua/blue squares, small red/holographic hexes, and matte small gray hexes - all in a clear base... whew! There is so much going on that I may have actually missed something! It's crazy awesome!

I layered 1 and a half dabbled coats of "Not Your Housekeeper" over my Julep Jessica & Models Own Indian Ocean mani from the other day and topped it off with 2 coats of top coat. I'm a little addicted to layering at the moment, but that just adds to the crazy goodness happening on my nails right now!

and the macro shot!:
this is my right hand index finger - I just had to get a shot of that massive magenta piece!!

I purchased my bottle of "Not Your Housekeeper" on Metametics Etsy page. Their minis are $4 and full sized are $10. They're having a sale this Friday starting at 12 pm PST - everything in their store will be 10% off!
