Models Own - Indian Ocean

Indian Ocean is a super shimmery pink/peach duochrome in a sheer blue base. This polish is breathtaking, especially in the bottle. Unfortunately it's too sheer to be worn alone (you could do it but it would take many many coats), so I layered one coat of it over my Julep Jessica mani from the other day. They look great together!

You can really see the peach/pink duochrome shimmer in this macro!

I purchased this bottle of Models Own from Harlow & Co. for $10. Shipping was free because my order was over $50. It's surprisingly easy to spend $50, especially on nail polish! ;)

Julep - Jessica

I received this polish in my first Julep Maven box a couple months ago (which only cost me a penny - how could I possibly resist?!). I love baby blues.. actually I love all shades of blue, but baby blue has always been one of my favorites. So needless to say the color of this polish did not disappoint, the formula however, is another story entirely. I know pastel polishes are usually at least slightly challenging because of their chalkiness.. but that wasn't the problem with this one. The problem is that it's extremely thick. So thick in fact it could have been a one coater! I ended up doing 2 coats in the effort to perfect flaws.. but it didn't quite work. I had a hard time getting the polish to go where I wanted it, so my manicure came out a bit messier than usual, especially around the cuticles.

Oh well, the color's really pretty so it looks great from a distance, but of course I find myself staring at all the imperfections. I added some polish thinner to the bottle, hopefully that fixes the problem. Even if it doesn't I can't complain since I only spent a penny on it! 4th of July mani!

I think this may be the first time in my life that I've done a Independence Day mani. What really inspired me to do it is this gorgeous polish from Julep - America The Beautiful (though on the bottle it just says America). I became a Julep Maven last month (it only cost a penny, so how could I possibly resist?), and when they sent me the email preview of what was to come in my It Girl box for July I was psyched! I'm only using 2 of the polishes in this mani, but I will show the others in a future post.

For this mani I used Julep America (red), Julep Kate (white), and Essie Aruba Blue.

Then I felt like the white & blue needed some glitter, so I added Sally Hansen Ice Queen.
